We had an exciting programme last year with several photowalks, Mock Weddings and training sessions plus days with Trevor & Faye Yerbury and Vincent O'Byrne. This year is sounding even more exciting already and there's more to come…
Sun 11 March – Photoshoot at a Country House in Staffordshire with Directors Steve & Lesley Thirsk plus models .. £60 including 3-course Sunday lunch.
This is taking place at the Upper House in Barlaston, a very interesting Country House steeped in local history built in 1845 for the Wedgwood family. It and has been lovingly converted into a luxury character property set amongst 10 acres of woodlands and beautifully landscaped gardens. It’s a photographers dream retaining many original features such as a stunning dark wood-panel hallway combined with a recently built orangery.
The venue will be laid out as though for a wedding and models will be on hand to pose for you, some in wedding attire, some not so. It’s not a formal training day, though help will no doubt be on hand if required. It’s a chance to play with your camera, develop your portfolio be it wedding, portrait or lifestyle, as well as meeting fellow members.
The day will run from 10am-4pm and the cost for this is just £60 for members (£80 for non-members*) including a fabulous 3-course Sunday Lunch in the venue’s highly acclaimed restaurant to make sure this is a fabulous social event as well as a great photoshoot opportunity! Weds 14 March – Open Day at the Blackthorne School, Cricklade, Gloucestershire with Panel Members Chris Milne & Simon Young .. Free
As you know the Blackthorne School offers some great courses for photographers of all levels and Guild members get a huge 20% discount off their prices.
This is an opportunity to pop in and experience what the centre has to offer plus have a critique of your work and / or get some one-to-one advice from Chris Milne and Simon Young.
As you know both are very highly regarded tutors, very knowledgeable and approachable so this is great opportunity to see the on-site facilities and get some bespoke advice.
The day will run from 10am-4pm and is free of charge but please let us know in advance if you are intending to attend.
Sat 14 April – Social Night.
Because we have two different events scheduled for Sun 15 April we thought we would arrange a social night the evening before.

Sun 15 April – Lighting Day with professional models by Panel Members Paul Haley and Phil Drinkwater .. £95
This is an exciting opportunity for you to look at different lighting techniques with the two stunning professional models above. Master Craftsman Paul Haley is highly regarded for his Boudoir shots and former Photographer of the Year Phil Drinkwater for his beauty shots. You’ll be working with both of them separately to get two different approaches in one day.
Paul Haley will be bedroom based dealing with the use of available light & Phil Drinkwater will be dealing with the use of studio light. This multi-faceted day will be very useful for anyone interested in learning more about lighting, and / or boudoir or beauty.
The cost of this two-class package is great value at just £95 for members (£120 for non-members*) including lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

Sun 15 April – Mock Civil Wedding with Guild Master Craftsman in Cheshire .. £195
This is the date of our very popular Mock Civil Wedding. The venue is fully laid out for a civil wedding complete with car, cake and wedding breakfast table settings. We have a bride, groom, bridesmaid and best man and dissect a full wedding day from the bride getting ready in a bedroom, other pre-wedding shots, images with the wedding car, the service itself, romantic and group shots, through to cutting the cake. The day is all about composition and is very hands-on with a Master Craftsman revealing their tips and secrets throughout the day.
The cost of this is great value at £195 for members (£245 for non-members*) including lunch and refreshments throughout the day. This is a very popular event and the group size is kept small so please book quickly if interested.

Weds 18 April – Bird & Wildlife photography with Panel Member Chris Milne .. Free
As you know Chris is a specialist in wildlife photography, and his images have been published throughout the world. He is inviting you to join him at the fantastic Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust site in Gloucestershire, which is a great place to see rare birds from all over the world, with hides overlooking lakes, the Severn Estuary and more.
This is a free day other than the fact you will need to pay the WWT entrance fee of about £10. It will start at 10am and finish at 4pm. There are restaurant facilities or you can bring your own lunch.

Sun 22 April – Manchester Photowalk with Panel Member Lesley Chalmers .. Free
The popular Photowalk in Manchester's historic Northern Quarter with talented Panel member Lesley Chalmers returns. Lesley has had many urban landscape and travel images published and the area has lots of urban grit and personality so it’s bound to be a great day.
The area has some great urban streetscapes, full of graffiti and other intriguing details – and there are usually lots quirky characters around. It’s a centre of alternative and bohemian culture. Guild Director Steve Thirsk hopes to join you there!
A free event the walk will start at 1pm, and end at 4/4.30pm after a drink and chat.

Sun 22 April – Portrait Photography with Guild Master Tony Nutley in Gloucestershire .. £150
This is an opportunity to learn the techniques of portrait photography from this distinguished celebrity photographer at the Blackthorne Centre in Gloucestershire. Tony is a true professional specialising in the film and TV industries with many of our best known celebrities such as John Thaw as subjects. He will be hosting a practical day of tuition at the centre and a model will be available to ensure you have the opportunity to practice the skills learnt during the day.

Fri 15th June – A day with Guild Master Damian Lovegrove in Luton .. £60 including Lunch
Damian Lovegrove doesn’t need much introduction! He is pulling together an exciting unmissable one-day programme for Guild members which we will tell you about as soon as we have the details.
The event should only cost £60 for members (£85 for non-members*) including an exceptional buffet lunch and refreshments.
It will take place at the fabulous http://hiltongardeninn.hilton.co.uk/lutonnorth which is easy to get to from most directions and is only a couple of miles from the airport should people want to fly in.
This is a very nice hotel with superbly equipped modern bedrooms costing from £60 for a double room including extras like free internet access and their unique Garden Sleep System. If you have the db&b package you get a £25pp credit in the very pleasant restaurant (which should get you 3 courses) so it’s worth staying over. We’ll certainly be there the night before!
Sun 17th June – Photowalk in Bournemouth with Steve & Lesley Thirsk including models .. Free
Local actors or models will be joining us for you to photograph in locations around the seafront. The precise details have yet to finalised but it will be a free event starting at 10.30am, and ending at 1pm after which those who want can join us for an formal lunch, a drink and chat.
